Evolutionary Socioeconomics: a Schumpeterian Computer Simulation

نویسنده

  • Michele Tucci
چکیده

The following note contains a computer simulation concerning the struggle between two companies: the first one is " the biggest zaibatsu of all " , while the second one is " small, fast, ruthless ". The model is based on a neo-Schumpeterian framework operating in a Darwinian evolutionary environment. After running the program a large number of times, two characteristics stand out: • There is always a winner which takes it all, while the loser disappears. • The key to success is the ability to employ efficiently the technological innovations. The topic of the present paper is strictly related with the content of the following notes: Michele Tucci, Evolution and Gravitation: a Computer Simulation of a Non-Walrasian Equilibrium Model. These references include some preliminary considerations regarding the comparison between the evolutionary and the gravitational paradigms and the evaluation of approaches belonging to rival schools of economic thought.

The present note includes explanatory comments about the synergic interaction within the sphere of the socioeconomic analysis between the two following theoretical frameworks: 1. The Darwinian evolutionary model. 2. The computer simulation in accordance with the principia established by Bruno de Finetti and Herbert Simon. J.E.L. Classification: O33, C63, B52

Evolutionary models’ comparative analysis

A methodology of comparative analysis of evolutionary models is proposed. The main aim of this proposition is to identify to what extend different models can be called ‘evolutionary ones’. Each model is analysed by searching for answers to following questions: • Is the model dynamical one? • Is it focused on far-from-equilibrium analysis? • What are a unit of evolution and a unit of selection? ...

Bridging the Gap between Schumpeterian Competition and Evolutionary Game Theory

This paper suggests that the analysis of Schumpeterian competitionwithin the Nelson--Winter model should be complemented with evolutionary game theory. This model and its limitations for density-dependent Schumpeterian strategies are presented in terms of the equations of evolutionary dynamics. Formulated as evolutionary games, the set of strategies can easily be extended from innovators and im...

ارزیابی رویکردهای اقتصاد تطوری و ریشه های فکری آنها

Casting a chronological glance at the trend of studies in the evolutionary economics area suffices to come to the point that the approach enjoys a long historical background. It is to say that the studies conducted in this area consist of miscellaneous thoughts ranging from insight of early Marxists to Austrian neo-liberalists. Nevertheless, a landmark study that paved the way for the developme...

MERIT-Infonomics Research Memorandum series Neo-Schumpeterian Simulation Models

The use of simulation modelling techniques by neo-Schumpeterian economists dates back to Nelson and Winter’s 1982 book “An Evolutionary Theory of Economic Change”, and has rapidly expanded ever since. This paper considers the way in which successive generations of models have extended the boundaries of research (both with respect to the range of phenomena considered and the different dimensions...
